Cambodia which is also known as Kampuchea is a country in South East Asia. In its eastern border lies Vietnam, to its North lies Laos and the Gulf of Thailand borders it on the south west. Cambodia has caught the world by a storm recently and has emerged as one of the most sought after destinations in the world. The total area of Cambodia spans 181, 040 square kilometers of which 176,520 square kilometers are land and 4250 square kilometers of water. Twenty khaitts or khets comprise the provinces of Cambodia. In addition to the twenty provinces of Cambodia the country also has four province-level municipalities or krongs. The word khaitts or khet loosely translated implies provinces. The provinces of Cambodia are further subdivided into districts or the srok. The sroks are further divided into communes which are referred to as khums.
The municipalities of Cambodia on the other hand are dividedinto sub sections called khan which are again further divided into quarters or sangkats.
Some of the provinces of Cambodia and its municipalities are:-
Banteay Meanchey: this province is in the northwestern part of thecountry and its capital is Sisophon. This district is divided into a total of eight districts.
Battambang: the capital of this northwestern province is also called Battambang. This province has a total of thirteen districts or sroks.
Kampong Cham: This eastern province of Cambodia has sixteen districts or stroks with its capital as Kampong Cham.
